New Delhi [India], September 15 (ANI): To instill national pride, promote cultural integration, raise environmental awareness, enhance physical fitness, and foster a spirit of patriotism, the Territorial Army (TA) launched its cycling expedition for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands phase. The event was flagged off by Air Marshal Saju Balakrishnan, AVSM, VM, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN).
The team followed a route that included Brichgunj, Corbyn’s Cove, Marina Park Flag Point, Cellular Jail, Aberdeen Bazaar, VIP Road, School Line, Bathu Basti, and finally concluded at Brichgunj Military Station.
Earlier, the expedition had been flagged off at Siachen Base Camp, the highest battlefield in the world, on July 30, 2024. It is set to culminate at Indira Point, Great Nicobar Islands. This momentous cycling expedition commemorates the Platinum Jubilee of the Territorial Army.
The expedition team comprises two officers, four junior commissioned officers, and 26 other ranks from various TA battalions. During the expedition, they cycled through rugged terrain and faced challenging weather conditions, covering a total distance of 5,500 km.
The participation of these dedicated TA soldiers is a testament to their physical fitness and mental resilience, demonstrating their readiness to overcome any challenge in the service of national pride, unity, and security.
CINCAN expressed his delight in flagging off the expedition, congratulating all the officers, jawans, and their families on this significant occasion. He noted that the historic expedition will inspire others to push beyond their limits and strive for excellence.
During their journey, the team interacted with senior defence officers and NCC cadets at Brichgunj, engaged with the local population of Port Blair, curious tourists at Marina Park, and the residents of Seva Niketan at Dairy Farm.
They expressed their gratitude for the warm reception on the Emerald Isle, while emphasising the importance of national pride, cultural integration, sustainable environmental practices, physical fitness, and patriotism.
The expedition will proceed to Car Nicobar and Camorta, ultimately culminating at Indira Point in the Great Nicobar Islands. (ANI)
