New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): Surgical simulation devices are helping train doctors to treat cataract blindness and have been recently procured by the Eye Department at the Army Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi, said an official on Saturday.

Sharing information about the simulator, Brigadier, Sanjay Kumar Misra said, “A Thalamic surgical simulator, it is the most advanced simulator which is available in the world. We procured this simulator and are very particular about training because it is inhuman to practice on live human eyes. After all, eyes are important to everyone.”

Elucidating on the significance of the device, the official said, “Since we cannot afford to make any surgical mistakes on any human eyes, we have a very strict training schedule, so apart from the theory, we take care of the surgical part.”
“The simulator has two models: the Cataract Model, which makes you an expert in cataract surgery and the other is the advanced training module,” he said.
The official also said that the simulator is worth almost 4.3 crores and that the armed forces have procured two simulators, one at the RR Army Hospital and the other at the Armed Forces medical college.
“We have also recently procured for the Command Hospital in Bangalore and will also procure for the Command Hospital where postgraduates are training,” he said.
Earlier this week, the Army Hospital RR in New Delhi on Tuesday announced the opening of a state-of-the-art skin bank facility, the first of its kind to be established within the Armed Forces Medical Services.
This landmark initiative aims to revolutionise the treatment of severe burn injuries and other skin-related conditions among service members and their families.
The new skin bank will serve as a centralised hub for the collection, processing, storage, and distribution of skin grafts, providing a critical resource for military medical centres across the country.
By establishing this facility, the Armed Forces are ensuring that those who have sacrificed for our nation have access to the most advanced skin replacement therapies available. (ANI)
