Cooch Behar (West Bengal) [India], November 13 (ANI): As the by-electionscommenced in the Sitai Assembly constituency in West Bengal, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Dilip Kumar Roy on Wednesday alleged that the “TMC goons” are threatening the BJP supporters to not to cast their vote.
He alleged that several polling booths in the Sitai Assembly constituency are empty, because “voters are scared.”
“Since last night, TMC goons are roaming around Sitai constituency to intimidate common voters… They are threatening our supporters not to vote. Today I see many polling booths are empty because voters are scared…TMC and local administration are one…Police are helping the Trinamool party,” Roy told ANI.
Earlier in the day, BJP candidate for Madarihat, assembly constituency Rahul Lohar, said that the people in his constituency will answer the atrocities committed against women in this poll.
“The people of Madarihat have been blessing the BJP since 2014…I am confident that the people will give an answer to the corruption in government and atrocities committed against women in this by-election,” said Lohar.
He reiterated that every voter from each family will cast their vote against the atrocities committed against women.
Lohar added that he would work towards women’s security, elephant conflict, tourism, and healthcare facilities in the region after winning the polls.
Being asked about the results, he exuded confidence in winning the by-elections. “We will win 100 per cent,” he said.
Bypolls are being held at the six Assembly constituencies of West Bengal, namely, Naihati, Haroa, Medinipur, Taldangra, Sitai, and Madarihat. These seats were vacant after the resignation of the respective MLAs.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, except Madarihat, all other seats were won by the Trinamool Congress. (ANI)
